Aim: The development of calixarene based phenol biosensor. Methods: This study describes the application of a calixarene derivative, 5,17-diamino-25,27-bis(3-thiol-1-oxypropane)-26,28-dihydroxycalix[4]arene (HS-Calix-NH2) which has both amino and thiol functionalities, in the practical surface modifications for biomolecule binding. The fabrication of amperometric biosensors based on whole cell Gluconobacter oxydans DSMZ 2343 (G. oxydans) and glucose oxidase (GOx) was performed for the detection of glucose. Glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were coated with a 10-(4H-dithiyeno [3,2-b:2’,3’-d]pyroll-4-il)decan-1-amine (DTP-alkyl-NH2) polymer using an electropolymerization method and the formed interface was used to connect the bacteria and the enzyme to the electrode. Electrochemical polymerization of a new alkoxy-bridged dithieno (3,2-B:2’,3’-D) pyrrole derivative

A novel alkoxy-bridged dithieno (3, 2-B:2’,3’-D) pyrrole (DTP) derivative was synthesized and its corresponding polymer poly(1,2-bis(2-(4H-dithieno[3,2-b:2’,3’-d]pyrrol-4-yl)ethoxy)ethane) (P(DTP-alkoxy-DTP)) was successfully obtained electrochemically. The e ff ects of alkoxy bridge in the structure on the electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties of the polymer were also investigated in detail. The results showed that the polymer fi lm exhibits multielectrochromic behavior and a low band gap of 1.82 eV.

Photosynthetic microbial fuel cells (PMFCs) are an emerging technology for renewable solar energy conversion. Major efforts have been made to explore the electrogenic activity of cyanobacteria, mostly using practically unsustainable reagents. Here we report on photocurrent generation (≈8.64 µA cm-2) from cyanobacteria immobilized on electrodes modified with an efficient electron mediator, an Os2+/3+ redox polymer. Upon addition of ferricyanide to the electrolyte, cyanobacteria generate the maximum current density of ≈48.2 µA cm-2. © the Partner Organisations 2014.

In this study, an amperometric cholesterol biosensor was constructed based on cholesterol oxidase immobilized on a conducting 4-(4H-dithienol[3,2-b:2’,3’d]pyrrole-4)aniline polymer, (DTP(aryl)aniline). Glassy carbon electrodes were covered with P(DTP(aryl)aniline) which is used for the wiring of enzyme to the electrode surface by using electro-polymerization.
