Abstract
This research aims to determine the effect of kinesio® tape application on wheelchair basketball players’ shoulders.
A total of 12 wheelchair basketball players from TSK Karagücü team were involved in this research. The average age of the subjects was 31,17±7,90 years, height was 170,5±24,35 cm, and weight was 71,83±15,27 kg. They were chosen from the players who hadn’t been diagnosed with any disease associated with shoulder joint.
Subjects were assessed before and after combined kinesiotape aplication on deltoideus muscle. Muscle facilitation technique was applied to deltoideus muscle. Isokinetic parameters of the subjects’ shoulder joints were measured with Cybex NORM isokinetic dinamometer. It was taken the dominant shoulders' flexion and abduction movements into considereation for the isokinetic measurements. Measurements were repeated before and after kinesiotape aplications. In isokinetic measurement, 5 repetations at 60°/sec and 10 repetations at 180°/sec for shoulder's muscle strength were performed. Peak torques and total works were calculated. In statistical analyses of the data, SPSS for Windows 19.0 packet program was used. Wilcoxon Test was performed in the pre and post test comparisons. The results were evaluated in 0.05 precision.
After the evaluation of the study, an increse of the peak torques and total works have been found out of all the players’ dominant and non-dominant shoulders’s flexions and abductions at 60o/sn in favour of the kinesiotaping application (p<0,05). As the same, an increse of the peak torques and total works have been found out of all the players’ dominant and non-dominant shoulders’s flexions and abductions at 180o/sn in favour of the kinesiotaping application, too (p<0,05).
As a result, it’s determined that the kinesiotape application on the shoulders of the wheelchair basketball players has positive affects on the isokinetic muscle strength of these players. This study has shown that the kinesiotaping application can be used to support muscle strength.... Show more Show less
