Measuring K0S K± interactions using pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

We present the first measurements of femtoscopic correlations between the K0 and K± particles in pp √S collisions at s = 7 TeV measured by the ALICE experiment. The observed femtoscopic correlations are consistent with final-state interactions proceeding solely via the a0(980) resonance. The extracted kaon source radius and correlation strength parameters for K0SK− are found to be equal within the experimental uncertainties to those for K0K+. Results of the present study are compared with those S√ from identical-kaon femtoscopic studies also performed with pp collisions at s = 7 TeV by ALICE a ...Daha fazlası

Precision measurement of the mass difference between light nuclei and anti-nuclei

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The measurement of the mass differences for systems bound by the strong force has reached a very high precision with protons and anti-protons1,2. The extension of such measure- ment from (anti-)baryons to (anti-)nuclei allows one to probe any difference in the interactions between nucleons and anti- nucleons encoded in the (anti-)nuclei masses. This force is a remnant of the underlying strong interaction among quarks and gluons and can be described by effective theories3, but cannot yet be directly derived from quantum chromodynamics. Here we report a measurement of the difference between the ...Daha fazlası

Inclusive photon production at forward rapidities in proton–proton collisions at √s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The multiplicity and pseudorapidity distribu- tions of inclusive photons have been measured at forward rapidities (2.3 < η < 3.9) in proton–proton collisions at three center-of-mass energies, √s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV using the ALICE detector. It is observed that the increase in the average photon multiplicity as a function of beam energy is compatible with both a logarithmic and a power-law dependence. The relative increase in average photon multi- plicity produced in inelastic pp collisions at 2.76 and 7 TeV center-of-mass energies with respect to 0.9 TeV are 37.2 ± 0.3% (stat) ± 8.8% (sys) a ...Daha fazlası

Measurement of jet suppression in central Pb–Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The transverse momentum (pT) spectrum and nuclear modification factor (RAA) of reconstructed jets in 0–10% and 10–30% central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV were measured. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-kT jet algorithm with a resolution parameter of R = 0.2 from charged and neutral particles, utilizing the ALICE tracking detectors and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal). The jet pT spectra are reported in the pseudorapidity interval of |ηjet| < 0.5 for 40 < pT, jet < 120 GeV/c in 0–10% and for 30 < pT, jet < 100 GeV/c in 10–30% collisions. Reconstructed jets were required to cont ...Daha fazlası

Linear and non-linear flow mode in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

he second and the third order anisotropic flow, V2 and V3, are mostly determined by the corresponding initial spatial anisotropy coefficients, ε2 and ε3, in the initial density distribution. In addition to their dependence on the same order initial anisotropy coefficient, higher order anisotropic flow, Vn (n > 3), can also have a significant contribution from lower order initial anisotropy coefficients, which leads to mode-coupling effects. In this Letter we investigate the linear and non-linear modes in higher order anisotropic flow Vn for n = 4, 5, 6 with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadr ...Daha fazlası

Longitudinal asymmetry and its effect on pseudorapidity distributions in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

First results on the longitudinal asymmetry and its effect on the pseudorapidity distributions in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider are obtained with the ALICE detector. The longitudinal asymmetry arises because of an unequal number of participating nucleons from the two colliding nuclei, and is estimated for each event by measuring the energy in the forward neutron-Zero- Degree-Calorimeters (ZNs). The effect of the longitudinal asymmetry is measured on the pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles in the regions |η| < 0.9, 2.8 < η < 5.1 and −3.7 < η < −1 ...Daha fazlası

π0 and η meson production in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

An invariant differential cross section measure- ment of inclusive π 0 and η meson production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV was carried out by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The spectra of π0 and η mesons were measured in transverse momentum ranges of 0.3 < pT < 35GeV/cand0.5 < pT < 35GeV/c, respectively. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD cal- culations using fragmentation functions DSS14 for the π0 and AESSS for the η overestimate the cross sections of both neutral mesons, although such calculations agree with the measured η/π0 ratio within uncertainties. The results w ...Daha fazlası

Multi-strange baryon production in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The multi-strange baryon yields in Pb–Pb collisions have been shown to exhibit an enhancement relative to pp reactions. In this work, and production rates have been measured with the ALICE experiment as a function of transverse momentum, pT, in p–Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √sNN = 5.02 TeV. The results cover the kinematic ranges 0.6 GeV/c < pT < 7.2 GeV/c and 0.8 GeV/c < pT < 5 GeV/c, for and respectively, in the common rapidity interval −0.5 < yCMS < 0. Multi-strange baryons have been identified by reconstructing their weak decays into charged particles. The pT spectra are ana ...Daha fazlası

Enhanced production of multi-strange hadrons in high-multiplicity proton–proton collisions

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

At sufficiently high temperature and energy density, nuclear matter undergoes a transition to a phase in which quarks and gluons are not confined: the quark–gluon plasma (QGP)1. Such an exotic state of strongly interacting quantum chro- modynamics matter is produced in the laboratory in heavy nuclei high-energy collisions, where an enhanced production of strange hadrons is observed2–6. Strangeness enhancement, originally proposed as a signature of QGP formation in nuc- lear collisions7 , is more pronounced for multi-strange baryons. Several effects typical of heavy-ion phenomenology have been ...Daha fazlası

Forward-backward multiplicity correlations in pp collisions at √s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The strength of forward-backward (FB) multiplicity correlations is measured √ s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7TeV. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region (|η| < 0.8) for the transverse momentum pT > 0.3GeV/c. Two separate pseudorapidity windows of width (δη) ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 are chosen symmetrically around η = 0. The multiplicity correlation strength (bcorr) is studied as a function of the pseudorapidity gap (ηgap) between the two windows as well as the width of these windows. The correlation strength is found to decrease with increasing ηgap and shows a non-linear increas ...Daha fazlası

Production of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The production of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV was studied for 2 < pT < 16 GeV/c with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The measurement was performed at forward (p-going direction) and backward (Pb-going direction) rapidity, in the ranges of rapidity in the centre-of-mass system (cms) 2.03 < ycms < 3.53 and −4.46 < ycms < −2.96, respectively. The production cross sections and nuclear modification factors are presented as a function of transverse momentum (pT). At forward rapidity, the nuclear modification factor is compatible with unity while a ...Daha fazlası
