Systematic review of mycotoxins in food and feeds in Turkey

ÜNÜSAN, Nurhan

Mycotoxins are toxic natural contaminants of food and feeds and are produced by various fungi fromAspergillus,Alternaria,Fusarium, andPenicilliumgenera. Molds and their toxins have attracted much attention worldwide dueto the important economic losses related to their effects on human health and domestic and international trade.Although more than 400 mycotoxins have been identified, most studies have focused on aflatoxins, ochratoxin A,fusarium toxins, zearalenone, patulin, and trichothecenes owing to their relationships with food safety andeconomic losses. In Turkey, the dramatic variations i ...Daha fazlası

Selenium Content of Turkish Foods: A Twenty-Year Review

ÜNÜSAN, Nurhan

Selenium is a nutritionally essential trace element majorly obtained from food. The bioavailability of selenium to the food chain depends on soil organic-matter content, pH, and selenium speciation, presence of ions that complex with selenium and food-processing. Selenium is a constituent of more than two dozen selenoproteins that have a pleiotropic effect ranging from DNA synthesis to antiinflammatory and antioxidant effects. This aimed to highlight the degree of variation of selenium in Turkish foods. High amounts of selenium were found in pistachio (54.57 µg/g), walnut (30.77 µg/g), fish (2 ...Daha fazlası

Emerging intercultural identity in the Turkish EFL context

ÇELİK, Mehmet

The paper argues that for individuals to develop intercultural identity, they do not necessarily need to experience intercultural experiences. A questionnaire devised by the author is administered to 227 Turkish learners of English aged 19-23. The findings of self-reported responses to a 37-item questionnaire as well as the qualitative data reveal that learners feel they have a slightly different identity and that English is an asset, a passport to a world of new experiences in socialization and cross-cultural communication. The paper concludes that it is legitimate to speak of intercultural i ...Daha fazlası

Publication Preview Source Estimation of disease progression for ischemic heart disease using latent Markov with covariates

OFLAZ, Zarina | YOZGATLIGİL, Ceylan | KESTEL, Sevtap

Contemporaneous monitoring of disease progression, in addition to early diagnosis, is important for the treatment of patients with chronic conditions. Chronic disease‐related factors are not easily tractable, and the existing data sets do not clearly reflect them, making diagnosis difficult. The primary issue is that databases maintained by health care, insurance, or governmental organizations typically do not contain clinical information and instead focus on patient appointments and demographic profiles. Due to the lack of thorough information on potential risk factors for a single patient, i ...Daha fazlası

Direct photon elliptic flow in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

KARASU UYSAL, Ayben | ALICE Collaboration

The elliptic flow of inclusive and direct photons was measured at mid-rapidity in two centrality classes 0–20% and 20–40% in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV by ALICE. Photons were detected with the highly segmented electromagnetic calorimeter PHOS and via conversions in the detector material with the e+e− pairs reconstructed in the central tracking system. The results of the two methods were combined and the direct-photon elliptic flow was extracted in the transverse momentum range 0.9 < pT < 6.2 GeV/c. A comparison to RHIC data shows a similar magnitude of the measured direct- photon elli ...Daha fazlası
