Decode-and-forward relaying based on orthogonal complementary codes

KIZILIRMAK, Refik Çağlar

In this note, we propose a full-duplex decode-and-forward cooperative diversity scheme based on code division with orthogonal complementary codes. We consider a simple case in which a single user is assisted by a single relay to achieve cooperative diversity. When the cooperation is full-duplex, the operational delay of the relay makes the channel asynchronous and this may cause multiple-access interference (MAI) between the user and relay. The orthogonal complementary codes have perfect autocorrelation and cross-correlation properties that provide MAI-free operation in asynchronous channels. ...Daha fazlası

Effective 3D Surface Modeling for Geographic Information Systems

MENDİ, Engin | ALPARSLAN, Mesut | YÜKSEK, Kemal

Abstract. In this work, we propose a dynamic, flexible and interactive urban digital terrain platform with spatial data and query processing capabilities of geographic information systems, multimedia database functionality and graphical modeling infrastructure. A new data element, called Geo-Node, which stores image, spatial data and 3-D CAD objects is developed using an efficient data structure. The system effectively handles data transfer of Geo-Nodes between main memory and secondary storage with an optimized directional replacement policy (DRP) based buffer management scheme. Mobile Subscriber Profiling and Personal Service Generation using Location Awareness

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

In the mobile environment, the location and the next move of subscribers are important. In this study, a method to detect the next move of the subscribers is proposed. In addition to the categorization of subscribers by using their Internet usage history, the knowledge of the next move pattern of subscribers will provide the flexibility to guide them to decide the next move. During the tracking of subscribers, the mobile devices of the subscribers are used as sensors to get in-depth knowledge about their preferences in their social life. The method presented here is the first in the literature ...Daha fazlası

SpEnD: Linked Data SPARQL Endpoints Discovery Using Search Engines

YUMUŞAK, Semih | DOĞDU, Erdoğan | KODAZ, Halife | KAMILARIS, Andreas | VANDENBUSSCHE, Pierre-Yves

Linked data endpoints are online query gateways to semantically annotated linked data sources. In order to query these data sources, SPARQL query language is used as a standard. Although a linked data endpoint (i.e. SPARQL endpoint) is a basic Web service, it provides a platform for federated online querying and data linking methods. For linked data consumers, SPARQL endpoint availability and discovery are crucial for live querying and semantic information retrieval. Current studies show that availability of linked datasets is very low, while the locations of linked data endpoints change frequ ...Daha fazlası

Hierarchical representation of video sequences for annotation

MENDİ, Engin

Video annotation is an important issue in video content management systems. Rapid growth of the digital video data has created a need for efficient and reasonable mechanisms that can ease the annotation process. In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical clustering based system for video annotation. The proposed system generates a top-down hierarchy of the video streams using hierarchical k-means clustering. A tree-based structure is produced by dividing the video recursively into sub-groups, each of which consists of similar content. Based on the visual features, each node of the tree is ...Daha fazlası

Tagging accuracy analysis on part-of-speech taggers

YUMUŞAK, Semih | DOĞDU, Erdoğan | KODAZ, Halife

Part of Speech (POS) Tagging can be applied by several tools and several programming languages. This work focuses on the Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) library in the Python environment and the gold standard corpora installable. The corpora and tagging methods are analyzed and compared by using the Python language. Different taggers are analyzed according to their tagging accuracies with data from three different corpora. In this study, we have analyzed Brown, Penn Treebank and NPS Chat corpuses. The taggers we have used for the analysis are; default tagger, regex tagger, n-gram taggers. We h ...Daha fazlası

A 3D face animation system for mobile devices

MENDİ, Engin

In this paper, we present a 3D face animation system rendered on mobile devices. The system automatically creates realistic facial animation from text input with emotion tags. First, an input string is converted into synthetic voice and phonetic information. Then, 3D head model performs facial movements synchronized to the speech. The proposed system offers an affordable quick solution for applications that require virtual actors speaking text in which human-machine interfaces on mobile devices can profit.

A Machine Learning Framework to Identify the Causes of HbA1c in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

ALLAHVERDİ, Novruz | ALTUN, Alpaslan | TAGHIYEV, Anar

In this study, the effects of blood glucose levels on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) were investigated. For this reason, а classification model was developed by carrying out a logistic regression analysis based on machine learning and data mining methods. The purpose of using logistic regression analysis in this study was to establish a method of creating a statistical model that is most suitable and reasonable for determining the relationship between dependent and independent variables. This model shows how effective the factors that cause an increase in the HbA1c level. It can be planned to verify t ...Daha fazlası

A Study of Sound Transmission Loss for Building Materials Using Simulative and Experimental Approaches

MENDİ, Engin

The sound insulation models that we use in this study are based on theoretical computations and their aim is to reduce time, labor and cost consumption during the calculation of “Sound Transmission Loss (R)” of a particular material experimentally. In this study, for 11 different materials, we compare the performance of various simulation models with the experimental results that are already available in the literature. The experiments were carried out with Bastian, Akuzoft, Insul and dBKAisla model. The analyses were conducted in the standards of ISO 12354, ISO 10140 and ISO 717 in 1/3 octave ...Daha fazlası
