Power Aware Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Network

ALSULTAN, Mohammed | ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım | HASSANPOUR, Reza

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have gained importance with a rapid growth in their applications during the past decades. There has also been a rise in the need for energy-efficient and scalable routing along with the data aggregation protocols for the large scale deployments of sensor networks. The traditional routing algorithms suffer from drawbacks such as the presence of one hop long distance data transmissions, very large or very small clusters within a network at the same moment, over-accumulated energy consumption within the cluster-heads (CHs) etc. The lifetime of WSNs is also decrease ...Daha fazlası

A Hybrid Asymmetric Traffic Classifier For Deep Packet Inspection Systems With Route Asymmetry

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım | YAZICI, Mehmet Akif

A flow is said to be asymmetrically routed if its packets follow separate paths for forward and reverse directions. Routing asymmetry leads to problems in flow identification, policy enforcement, quota management, traffic shaping etc. in DPI systems. There are two existing approaches to battle routing asymmetry: clustering and state sharing. The latter fails with stateless traffic, while clustering leads to large traffic overhead. We propose the Hybrid Asymmetric Traffic Classifier (HATC) method that merges the best aspects of the two existing methods. HATC is able to handle all types of asymm ...Daha fazlası

SpEnD portal: Linked data discovery using SPARQL endpoints

YUMUŞAK, Semih | ARAS, Rıza Emre | UYSAL, Elif | DOĞDU, Erdoğan | KODAZ, Halife | ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

We present the project SpEnD, a complete SPARQL endpoint discovery and analysis portal. In a previous study, the SPARQL endpoint discovery and analysis steps of the SpEnD system were explained in detail. In the SpEnD portal, the SPARQL endpoints are extracted from the web by using web crawling techniques, monitored and analyzed by live querying the endpoints systematically. After many sustainability improvements in the SpEnD project, the SpEnD system is now online as a portal. SpEnD portal currently serves 1487 SPARQL endpoints, out of which 911 endpoints are uniquely found by SpEnD only when ...Daha fazlası

fCDN:A Novel-Energy Efficient Content Delivery Architecture over Next Generation Systems

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

Content Delivery in mobile networks are gaining popularity with an increasing demand by new mobile subscriptions. Reduction of the outgoing traffic is becoming an important issue, which is proposed to be reduced by a futuristic Content Delivery System (fCDN) for Mobile Operators. The proposed system utilizes the idea Device-to-Device Communication (D2D), with a dynamic resource allocation support of SDN-NFV based systems and the locating of a content. The approach is to use the content of a node as close as possible to a mobile user, which may reduce the cost of communication, and power consum ...Daha fazlası

Mobile Subscriber Profiling and Personal Service Generation using Location Awareness

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

In the mobile environment, the location and the next move of subscribers are important. In this study, a method to detect the next move of the subscribers is proposed. In addition to the categorization of subscribers by using their Internet usage history, the knowledge of the next move pattern of subscribers will provide the flexibility to guide them to decide the next move. During the tracking of subscribers, the mobile devices of the subscribers are used as sensors to get in-depth knowledge about their preferences in their social life. The method presented here is the first in the literature ...Daha fazlası

mCSDN: A Software Defined Network Based Content Delivery System with D2D Contribution

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

Mobile Content Delivery systems are becoming more popular with the increasing capacity demand by mobile subscribers. In order to reduce the total outgoing traffic a Content Delivery System for Mobile Operators (mCSDN) was proposed. The strength of the proposed system inspired by the idea of using Device-to-Device Communication (D2D), and Software Defined Networks (SDN) based middleware as the orchestrator of mobile device management and content locating. The approach of the study is assumed to be ``using the content from the node as close as possible to the mobile user{''}. The video used in t ...Daha fazlası

Network Security Scoring

KAÇAR, Mustafa Sami | ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

Network Security is one of the most critical issues of establishments like universities, govermental and private institutions which have significant role on development and security of a state. These establishments use internet to share and keep official information, and to make their institutive operations. A cyber attack that targetted such establishments networks may cause a great loss. Therefore, networks of these establishments ought to protect on a high level security. In this paper, a system is offered which is able to investigate networks of institutions and ranking their network by pr ...Daha fazlası

Identifying trolls and determining terror awareness level in social networks using a scalable framework

MUTLU, Büşra | MUTLU, Merve | ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım | DOĞDU, Erdoğan

Trolls in social media are 'malicious' users trying to propagate an opinion or distort the general perceptions. Identifying trolls in social media is a task of interest for many big data applications since data cannot be analyzed effectively without eliminating such users from the crowd. In this paper, we present a solution for troll detection and also the results of measuring terror awareness among social media users. We used Twitter platform only, and applied several machine learning techniques and big data methodologies. For machine learning we used k-Nearest Neighbour (kNN), Naive Bayes, a ...Daha fazlası

Topic Distribution Constant Diameter Overlay Design Algorithm (TD-CD-ODA)

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım | LAYAZALI, Sina | DOĞDU, Erdoğan

Publish/subscribe communication systems, where nodes subscribe to many different topics of interest, are becoming increasingly more common in application domains such as social networks, Internet of Things, etc. Designing overlay networks that connect the nodes subscribed to each distinct topic is hence a fundamental problem in these systems. For scalability and efficiency, it is important to keep the maximum node degree of the overlay in the publish/subscribe system low. Ideally one would like to be able not only to keep the maximum node degree of the overlay low, but also to ensure that the ...Daha fazlası

Sentiment analysis for the social media: A case study for Turkish general elections

UYSAL, Elif | YUMUŞAK, Semih | ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım | DOĞDU, Erdoğan

The ideas expressed in social media are not always compliant with natural language rules, and the mood and emotion indicators are mostly highlighted by emoticons and emotion specic keywords. There are language independent emotion keywords (e.g. love, hate, good, bad), besides every language has its own particular emotion specific keywords. These keywords can be used for polarity analysis for a particular sentence. In this study, we first created a Turkish dictionary containing emotion specific keywords. Then, we used this dictionary to detect the polarity of tweets that are collected by queryi ...Daha fazlası

Profiling Subscribers According to Their Internet Usage Characteristics and Behaviors

ÖZTOPRAK, Kasım

Providers (SP) are wishing to increase their Return of Investment (ROI) by utilizing the data assets generated by tracking subscriber behaviors. This results in the ability of applying personalized policies, monitoring and controlling the service traffic to subscribers and gaining more revenues through the usage of subscriber data with ad networks. In this paper, a framework is developed to monitor and analyze the Internet access of the subscribers of a regional SP in order to categorize the subscribers into an interest category from The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) categories. The stu ...Daha fazlası
