The ALICE Transition Radiation Detector: Construction, operation, and performance

The Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) was designed and built to enhance the capabilities of the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). While aimed at providing electron identification and triggering, the TRD also contributes significantly to the track reconstruction and calibration in the central barrel of ALICE. In this paper the design, construction, operation, and performance of this detector are discussed. Correlated Event-by-Event Fluctuations of Flow Harmonics in Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN = 2.76 TeV

We report the measurements of correlations between event-by-event fluctuations of amplitudes of anisotropic flow harmonics in nucleus-nucleus collisions, obtained for the first time using a new analysis method based on multiparticle cumulants in mixed harmonics. This novel method is robust against systematic biases originating from nonflow effects and by construction any dependence on symmetry planes is eliminated. Coherent ψ(2S) photo-production in ultra-peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

We have performed the first measurement of the coherent ψ(2S) photo-production cross section in ultra- peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at the LHC. This charmonium excited state is reconstructed via the ψ(2S)→ l+l− and ψ(2S)→J/ψπ+π− decays, where the J/ψ decays into two leptons. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 22 μb−1. The cross section for coherent ψ (2S) production in the rapidity interval −0.9 < y < 0.9 is dσ coh /d y = 0.83 ± 0.19 ����� stat + syst ����� mb. Prompt D meson and non-prompt J/ψ yields are studied as a function of the multiplicity of charged particles produced in inelastic proton-proton collisions at a centre- √ of-mass energy of s = 7TeV. Energy dependence and fluctuations of anisotropic flow in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 and 2.76 TeV

Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients with two- and multi-particle cu- mulants for inclusive charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 and 2.76 TeV are reported in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 0.8 and transverse momentum 0.2 < pT < 50 GeV/c. J/ψ elliptic and triangular flow in Pb–Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV

The production of K∗(892)0 and φ(1020) mesons has been measured in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV. K∗0 and φ are reconstructed via their decay into charged hadrons with the ALICE detector in the rapidity range −0.5 < y < 0. The transverse momentum spectra, measured as a function of the multiplicity, have a pT range from 0 to 15 GeV/c for K∗0 and from 0.3 to 21 GeV/c for φ. Non-strange and strange D-meson and charm-baryon production in heavy-ion collisions measured with ALICE at the LHC

We present recent results on strange and non-strange D-meson production measured with ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at the LI-IC. In addition, the measurements of the Lambda(+)(c)-baryon production and of the Lambda(+)(c)/D-0 ratio in pp, p-Pb, and, for the first time ever, Pb-Pb collisions are reported.

Υ suppression at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

Inclusive Υ(1S) and Υ(2S) production have been measured in Pb–Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon–nucleon pair √sNN = 5.02 TeV, using the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. φ meson measurements provide insight into strangeness production, which is one of the key observables for the hot medium formed in high-energy heavy-ion colli- sions. ALICE measured φ production through its decay in muon pairs in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV in the intermediate transverse momentum range 2 < pT < 5 GeV/c and in the rapidity interval 2.5 < y < 4.
