Drought and Flood Analyses of Samsun City

DEMİR, Vahdettin | BİLGE, Hümeyra | SEVİMLİ, Mehmet Faik

The aim of this study is to analyze the flood and drought based on precipitation and streamflow data gathered from Samsun City, the most developed province of the Black Sea Region. Flood and drought analysis are important for the water resources management and important for anticipating the natural disasters that may occur in Samsun. The study has been carried out in two parts. In the first part, streamflow data, covering the period from 1964 to 2015, provided by the Current Observation Station, which is the most powerful parameter causing flood, was investigated for flood analysis by Mann-Ken ...Daha fazlası

Static analysis of laminated composite beams based on higher-order shear deformation theory by using mixed-type finite element method

ÖZÜTOK, Atilla | MADENCİ, Emrah

In this paper, mixed finite element (MFEM) equations which are based on a functional are obtained by using the Gâteaux differential (GD) for laminated composite beams. Higher-order shear deformation theory (HOBT) including non-linear distribution of shear stress through thickness of laminated beam is presented. Differential field equations of composite beams are derived from virtual displacement principle. These equations were trans- formed into the operator form and using the mathematical advantages of the proposed the variational method, a functional with geometric and dynamic boundary condi ...Daha fazlası

Numerical modeling of Samsun Mert River floods

ÜLKE, Aslı | BEDEN, Neslihan | DEMİR, Vahdettin | MENEK, Necati

Floods are considered one of the most important natural disasters after earthquakes in Turkey. As a result, there is currently great public interest in this issue and it is necessary to intensify research activities in order to understand natural disasters better and to reinforce risk management. The effect of climate change on meteorological events causes an increase in extreme events such as excessive precipitation in some regions. An extreme natural event becomes a disaster when it has a large impact on human settlements and activities. Study area Samsun city is placed in the north of Turke ...Daha fazlası

Trend Analysis of Precipitation, Temperature and Wind Data in Samsun (Turkey)

ÜLKE, Aslı | BEDEN, Neslihan | DEMİR, Vahdettin

Climate change effects have been remarkably perceived today; the determination of trends in precipitation, stream flow, winds, evaporation, and temperatures has become considerable for the planning and management of water resources and engineering projects. Nowadays there is a lot of studies have been made in progress on global and regional climate changes in literature. The objective of this study is to analyze monthly, annual and seasonal trends in average temperature, total precipitation, and average wind data by Mann- Kendall, linear trend and Sen’s Trend tests. The data sets are obtained ...Daha fazlası

Flood Modeling by GIS Tools

BEDEN, Neslihan | DEMİR, Vahdettin | ÜLKE, Aslı

In this study flood risks of Samsun Degirmen stream determinate by MIKE 11 and GIS. In this study, MIKE powered by DHI software used for numerical 1D modeling of study area. The hydrological and hydraulic data for the study area were obtained from the Turkish General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works. ArcGIS program was used for creating a triangulated irregular network data (TIN). The flood inundation maps demonstrated that some areas, from the upstream to downstream of the Degirmen stream basin is affected from 100 year and 500 year return period events.

Investigation of Sizing Criteria for Cantilever Retaining Wall with Taguchi Optimization

TAN, Özcan | ERKAN, İbrahim Hakkı | URAY, Esra

Controllable or uncontrollable parameters like elevation difference between soil levels, soil properties, selected wall dimensions, case of groundwater, construction area, intended use and cost have been affected design of retaining walls that connects two different soil levels. In this study, factors effect on the design of the cantilever retaining walls which have an important place in geotechnical engineering applications have been investigated experimentally. For different wall height and soil properties Signal/Noise (S/N) and variance analysis have been performed separately by using L16 d ...Daha fazlası

An Example of Cement Stabilization Application in Railway Systems (Aladdin-Adliye Tramway)

URAY, Esra | ERKAN, İbrahimHakkı | ÖZÇELİK, Mustafa | TAN, Özcan

The subbase and base layers of the road and railway should be designed to be the most economical and should provide criteria such as bearing capacity, settlement and permeability during service life. Today, cement stabilization is widely used in improving the soil properties when the criteria are not met. In this study, the quality control tests of stabilized filling and cement stabilization applied in the construction area of Konya Aladdin-Adliye tramway line and application details of cement stabilization along the route have been given. At the quality control experiments of stabilized mater ...Daha fazlası

Impacts of climatic variables on water-level variations in two shallow Eastern Mediterranean lakes

YAĞBASAN, Özlem | YAZICIGİL, Hasan | DEMİR, Vahdettin

Variations in temperature and precipitation have direct impacts on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the shallow lakes. This paper examines the possible linkages between climate variables and the water levels of shallow interconnected Lakes Mogan and Eymir, located 20 km south of Ankara in Central Anatolia. The variations in the lakes' water levels during 1996-2015 are studied and the impacts of climate variables on the lake levels are assessed to address the long-term consequences. The nonparametric Mann-Kendall test was used to quantify trends in the climate variables ...Daha fazlası

Variational Approximate and Mixed-Finite Element Solution for Static Analysis of Laminated Composite Plates

MADENCİ, Emrah | ÖZÜTOK, Atilla

The main objective of the present study is to give a systematic way for the derivation of laminated composite plates by using the mixed type finite element formulation with a functional. The fırst order shear deformation plate theory is used. Differential field equations of composite plates are derived from virtual displacement principle. These equations were written in operator form then by using the Gateaux differential method, a new functional which including the dynamic and geometric boundary conditions is obtained after provide potential conditions. Applying mixedtype finite element base ...Daha fazlası
