Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction and Objective: The use of reflection method in clinical education improves students 'ability to learn through experiences, to be aware of what they are doing, to think about them, to be responsible for their own learning, to see and correct their mistakes, to think critically, to improve students' skills in situations that negatively affect learning by developing problem solving and research skills. The aim of this study is to determine the learning experiences of nursing 3rd year students who
took Nursing Practice of the Childrearing Family lesson by examining clinical reflection reports in the application areas of pediatrics clinic.
Method: This research was conducted in accordance with the qualitative research design. The data of the study was collected by the researchers in the 2018-2019 academic year in KTO Karatay University School of Health Sciences Nursing Department. The participants of the study consisted of 153 reports (n = 51) of the students who agreed to participate in the study, who took the Nursing Practice of the Childrearing Family lesson and applied them in the pediatrics clinics. The data of the study were
obtained by the content analysis of the clinical reflection reports.
Results: In the study, 3rd grade nursing students explained the learning experiences in clinical reflection reports in four main themes and six positive and five negative total 11 sub-themes. The main themes of clinical reflection reports are; the importance of the event, the definition of the situation, analysis of the situation and action plan. In the research, it was determined that the students understood the developmental characteristics of the children and the difference between the children and the adult
patients, increased their interest in pediatric nursing in their professional future plans, understood the importance of the protective pediatrics, tried to develop empathy with the child and family, the clinical nurses encouraged the students to participate in the care of the child and developed the students' selfconfidence. On the other hand, it was found that the students had to worry about seeing children experiencing pain in their pediatric clinics, fear of invasive practices, difficulty in communicating with children, lack of knowledge of families, negative family attitudes.
Conclusion: The findings of the study have illuminating and guiding features the learning experiences and coping methods of nursing students in the pediatrics clinic.
