Aşırı aktif mesanesi olan kadınlarda pelvik taban kas kuvvetine göre mesane semptom ciddiyeti ve yaşam kalitesinin karşılaştırılması

ABSTRACTAim:The aim of this study was to compare bladder symptom severity and quality of life according to pelvic floor muscle strength in women with overactive bladder (OAB).Methods:Thirty-three women with OAB were included in the study. According to the Modified Oxford Scale, those with pelvic floor muscle strengths of less than 3 (n:16, age: 54 151 (21.25) year, bodymass index (BMI): 32.23(4.10) kg/m2) as weak and those with the muscle strengths of 3 and above (n:17, age: 44 (14.50) years, BMI: 30.10(7.25) kg/m2) as non-weak were divided into two groups. Physical characteristics of the patients were recorded. Bladdersymptoms severity with Overactive Bladder_V8 (OAB_V8), urgency with Patient Perception of Intensity of Urgency Score (PPIUS) and quality of life with King's Health Questionnaire were evaluated. Mann-Whitney U test was used for analysis. Results:Physicalcharacteristics of the grups were similar (page: 0.074 ve pBMI: 0.249). The OAB_V8 (p: 0.030), PPIUS (p: 0,001), emotions(p: 0,041), sleep/energy (p: 0,045) and symptoms severity scores related to quality of life (p<0,001) were found to be higher in patients with pelvic floor muscle weakness compared to patients without pelvic floor muscle weakness group. It was detected no difference for other scores between groups (p>0.05).Conclusion: In this study, it was observed that the symptoms of AAM and urgencycomplaints increased, the symptoms were more severe, and the patients' emotions and sleeping were adversely affected in women with OAB who had pelvic floor muscle weakness compared to women with AAM without pelvic floor muscle weakness. According to these results, the addition of pelvic floor exercises to rehabilitation programs may contribute to decreasing OAB related symptoms and improving quality of life.Key words: Overactive bladder, pelvic floor muscles, quality of life
