In contrast to general belief, no one can construe a dream in the right manner. The diversity in the society embodies itself in the fantasy of each person out there. The perplexed visions become so wobbly that our conscious crave for a meaning to put them in a rational trajectory to gain gratification. In Mulholland Drive director David Lynch is mesmerized by contemporary ideas and draws from them triumphantly. He infuses self, desire, imagination and real and molds them in the same pot. Therefore, movie gains the bafflement of a dream but still symbolizes ration to an extent and ideas of the psyche. Indeed, this genre became a precursor of American avant-garde cinema and accepted as a genre defining movie along with few other movies. Mulholland Drive is a surrealist dreamscape incarnated in a Hollywood movie. Characters of the movie have ever-changing personalities and personas as if they were caught up in a kaleidoscope. The movie does not want us to solve a mystery, even there may be no mystery to be solved although the puzzling narrative forces us to do so. As we keep watching we comprehend that closure is not the goal, we must float along with the narrative. But there are those, like Slavoj Zizek, who insist that we can collect a rational narrative and coherent themes in Mulholland Drive, if we use a suitable view as Lacanian.
