Coherent ψ(2S) photo-production in ultra-peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

We have performed the first measurement of the coherent ψ(2S) photo-production cross section in ultra- peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at the LHC. This charmonium excited state is reconstructed via the ψ(2S)→ l+l− and ψ(2S)→J/ψπ+π− decays, where the J/ψ decays into two leptons. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 22 μb−1. The cross section for coherent ψ (2S) production in the rapidity interval −0.9 < y < 0.9 is dσ coh /d y = 0.83 ± 0.19 ����� stat + syst ����� mb. Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients with two- and multi-particle cu- mulants for inclusive charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 and 2.76 TeV are reported in the pseudorapidity range |η| < 0.8 and transverse momentum 0.2 < pT < 50 GeV/c. The full data sample collected by the ALICE detector in 2015 (2010), corre- sponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.7 (2.0) μb−1 in the centrality range 0–80%, is analysed. Methylmethane sulfonate (MMS) is an alkylating agent that may react with DNA and damage it. We investigated histological changes and apoptosis caused by MMS and the effects of curcumin on MMS treated mouse kidneys. Twenty-four mice were divided into four equal groups: controls injected with saline, a group injected with 40 mg/kg MMS, a group injected with 40 mg/kg MMS and given 100 mg/kg curcumin by gavage, and a group given 100 mg/kg curcumin by gavage.
