The production of K∗(892)0 and φ(1020) mesons in proton-proton (pp) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV has been analyzed using a high luminosity data sample accumulated in 2011 with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Transverse momentum (pT) spectra have been measured for K∗(892)0 and φ(1020) mesons via their hadronic decay channels for pT up to 20 GeV/c. The measurements in pp collisions have been compared to model calculations and used to determine the nuclear modification factor and particle ratios. The K∗(892)0/K ratio exhibits significant reduction fro ...Daha fazlası
The yields of the K∗(892)0 and φ(1020) resonances are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV through their hadronic decays using the ALICE detector. The measurements are performed in multiple centrality intervals at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.5) in the transverse-momentum ranges 0.3 < pT < 5 GeV/c for the K∗(892)0 and 0.5 < pT < 5 GeV/c for the φ(1020). The yields of K∗(892)0 are suppressed in central Pb-Pb collisions with respect to pp and peripheral Pb-Pb collisions (perhaps due to rescattering of its decay products in the hadronic medium), while the longer-lived φ(1020) meson is not sup ...Daha fazlası
The production of K∗(892)0 and φ(1020) mesons has been measured in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV. K∗0 and φ are reconstructed via their decay into charged hadrons with the ALICE detector in the rapidity range −0.5 < y < 0. The transverse momentum spectra, mea- sured as a function of the multiplicity, have a pT range from 0 to 15 GeV/c for K∗0 and from 0.3 to 21 GeV/c for φ. Inte- grated yields, mean transverse momenta and particle ratios are reported and compared with results in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV. In Pb–Pb and p–Pb collisions, K∗0 and φ pr ...Daha fazlası
We present the results of three-dimensional femtoscopic analyses for charged and neutral kaons recorded by ALICEinPb-Pbcollisionsat√sNN =2.76TeV.Femtoscopyisusedtomeasurethespace-timecharacteristicsof particle production from the effects of quantum statistics and final-state interactions in two-particle correlations. Kaon femtoscopy is an important supplement to that of pions because it allows one to distinguish between different model scenarios working equally well for pions. In particular, we compare the measured three-dimensional kaon radii with a purely hydrodynamical calculation and a mod ...Daha fazlası
This work presents new constraints on the existence and the binding energy of a possible Λ-Λ bound state, the H-dibaryon, derived from Λ-Λ femtoscopic measurements by the ALICE collaboration. The results are obtained from a new measurement using the femtoscopy technique in pp collisions at s√=13 TeV and p-Pb collisions at sNN‾‾‾‾√=5.02 TeV, combined with previously published results from p-Pb collisions at s√=7 TeV. The Λ-Λ scattering parameter space, spanned by the inverse scattering length f−10 and the effective range d0, is constrained by comparing the measured Λ-Λ correlation function with ...Daha fazlası
The cross section of jets reconstructed from charged particles is measured in the transverse momentum range of 5 < pT < 100 GeV=c in pp collisions at the center-of-mass energy of s 1⁄4 5.02 TeV with theALICE detector. The jets are reconstructed using the anti-kT algorithm with resolution parameters R 1⁄4 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.6 in the pseudorapidity range jηj < 0.9 − R. The charged jet cross sections are compared with the leading-order (LO) and to next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) calculations. It is found that the NLO calculations agree better with the meas ...Daha fazlası
ALICE is the heavy-ion experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The experiment continuously took data during the first physics campaign of the machine from fall 2009 until early 2013, using proton and lead-ion beams. In this paper we describe the running environment and the data handling procedures, and discuss the performance of the ALICE detectors and analysis methods for various physics observables.

The measurement of the mass differences for systems bound by the strong force has reached a very high precision with protons and anti-protons1,2. The extension of such measure- ment from (anti-)baryons to (anti-)nuclei allows one to probe any difference in the interactions between nucleons and anti- nucleons encoded in the (anti-)nuclei masses. This force is a remnant of the underlying strong interaction among quarks and gluons and can be described by effective theories3, but cannot yet be directly derived from quantum chromodynamics. Here we report a measurement of the difference between the ...Daha fazlası
The multiplicity and pseudorapidity distribu- tions of inclusive photons have been measured at forward rapidities (2.3 < η < 3.9) in proton–proton collisions at three center-of-mass energies, √s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV using the ALICE detector. It is observed that the increase in the average photon multiplicity as a function of beam energy is compatible with both a logarithmic and a power-law dependence. The relative increase in average photon multi- plicity produced in inelastic pp collisions at 2.76 and 7 TeV center-of-mass energies with respect to 0.9 TeV are 37.2 ± 0.3% (stat) ± 8.8% (sys) a ...Daha fazlası
The transverse momentum (pT) spectrum and nuclear modification factor (RAA) of reconstructed jets in 0–10% and 10–30% central Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV were measured. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-kT jet algorithm with a resolution parameter of R = 0.2 from charged and neutral particles, utilizing the ALICE tracking detectors and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal). The jet pT spectra are reported in the pseudorapidity interval of |ηjet| < 0.5 for 40 < pT, jet < 120 GeV/c in 0–10% and for 30 < pT, jet < 100 GeV/c in 10–30% collisions. Reconstructed jets were required to cont ...Daha fazlası
he second and the third order anisotropic flow, V2 and V3, are mostly determined by the corresponding initial spatial anisotropy coefficients, ε2 and ε3, in the initial density distribution. In addition to their dependence on the same order initial anisotropy coefficient, higher order anisotropic flow, Vn (n > 3), can also have a significant contribution from lower order initial anisotropy coefficients, which leads to mode-coupling effects. In this Letter we investigate the linear and non-linear modes in higher order anisotropic flow Vn for n = 4, 5, 6 with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadr ...Daha fazlası
