nfertilite, bir yıl düzenli korunmasız cinsel ilişkiden sonra gebe kalamama olarak tanımlanır (Zegers-Hochschild ve ark. 2017) Önemli bir sağlık sorunudur ve üreme çağındaki çiftlerin ~ %10-15’ini etkileyerek dünya çapında giderek artmaktadır (Okada ve ark. 2002). Her iki partnerin de ilk çocuk sahibi olma yaşının ileri yaşlara kayması ve yaşam tarzındaki değişiklikler, infertilite insidansının artışına katkıda bulunmuştur (Cariati ve ark. 2019). Çiftlerde infertilite durumunun %50’si erkek infertilitesine bağlı olmakla birlikte, erkeklerin ~ %7’si infertildir (WHO 2000; Tournaye 2017).
